Dogwood Adventure Play is set across seven acres of countryside with two secure fields and a dog training facility. We’re between Darlington and Stockton, and we serve clients from all across Middlesbrough, Aycliffe, Sedgefield, Tees Valley, County Durham, Newcastle, Northumberland and Yorkshire.

Our purpose-built dog play areas are available to hire on an individual basis all year round, seven days a week.
Ideal for dogs that cannot be let off lead in public places – perhaps because they don’t enjoy meeting other dogs, or for those that don’t have great recall skills, puppies or adult dogs that need to work on training in a safe enclosed environment, owners of rescue dogs who would like to bond with their new companion, or anyone else who enjoys watching their dog run free.
You have exclusive use of the park during your booking. Our coded entry system and carefully timed slots mean that you won’t be disturbed, and in-field parking allows you to lock the gate behind you before letting your dogs out of your vehicle.

“Hi, I’m Katie! For more than a decade I’ve helped thousands of reactive and distracted dog owners enjoy better walks, first at Dogs Trust and now here at Dogwood Adventure Play. I’m a qualified dog trainer, enrichment specialist and Scentventure Guide and I love nothing more than seeing dog owners just like you get their freedom back.
I understand firsthand how it feels to have a dog with behavioural issues.
My rescue dog Lao barked, lunged and bit. Walks were a nightmare. I was stressed, frustrated and alone. I desperately needed somewhere to exercise him safely but there were no Dogwoods in the North East back then.
Like you I was frustrated by dogs running up to Lao and hearing ‘It’s ok, she’s friendly!’ Nobody should have to dread taking their dog for a walk, so I opened Lao’s field so that you can enjoy stress free walks too. I know how it feels to think you will never be able to let your dog off the lead, to be embarrassed by their behaviour, overwhelmed and confused by all the conflicting advice.
But I also know how it feels to watch your dog safely running, sniffing, playing, exploring off-lead. And I know how it feels when the training pays off and you can go to the beach, the forest, market towns, cafes and pub gardens. I know the peace of mind that I am doing the best for my dog because he deserves it.
I believe the greatest part of Dogwood is the people we share it with. We’re a community that came together in strength and hope, and the desire to give our dogs the best lives possible - while making ours easier. My vision is for all dogs to enjoy freedom. My vision is for no person to ever feel lonely or ‘not good enough’ because of their dog’s behaviour.

Where would Dogwood be without the Adventure Play part of our name? Well, just a field. Normal fields can be a lifeline initially but understanding dogs’ long-term needs, we knew that wasn’t enough. Dogwood is a SCENTVENTURE PARK where dogs can sniff, discover, explore, climb, keep fit and develop strength and confidence - everything they need to stay calm, relaxed and happy.
Combining elements of training, behaviour, scentwork and adventure, Scentventure® is Katie’s signature training programme, a new and exciting way to enjoy stress free dog walks and calm canine behaviour - at Dogwood and out on your everyday local walks.
Dogwood is just a field. Scentventure is what you do when you get there!

SECURE FIELDS
Fencing is 2 metres high and buried underground meaning that owners of even the most notorious escapees can relax. Our coded double-gate entry system and in-field parking allows you to lock two gates before letting your dog out of the car. We carry out frequent perimeter checks to put your mind at rest.
FIELD HIRE PRICES
50 minutes, 1-3 dogs: Standard Hire £15 / Introductions £25.
Additional dogs, up to a maximum of 8: £2 each. Prices include VAT.
DOG PLAYGROUND & ENRICHMENT
Adventure Play® equipment is provided in both fields for your dog’s enjoyment and to boost their focus, fitness and confidence. Explore the Sensory Gardens with their variety of smells and textures which reduce stress and anxiety and help dogs feel calm.
